Belfast Markets 2015

Wednesday 9 December 2015

I had been planning to go to the Christmas Markets, for over a month now, and one thing or another kept leading to the trip being temporarily cancelled and postponed. Finally the day came when I hopped on the train and headed for the gorgeously festive European Markets that had settled into the heart of a well lit up Belfast City.

We arrived at about 3 o'clock to the markets which was quite early, and while this was lovely, I feel like the real Christmassy magic feeling only really hits you when it goes dark and the fairy lights look their brightest.

There was stall after stall of lovely crafts, including personalised Christmas decorations, handmade novelties using old wires, drinks cans and beads, or chocolate shaped into the most lovely, unique gift ideas I've ever seen. This stall was definitely a marvel.

Anything from keys, to tools, paintbrushes and cameras were available and ready to be lovingly giftwrapped in a wee cardboard box.
Find them online here at The Amazing Chocolate Workshop!

I think Christmas Markets can be a great place to find unique presents for loved ones, or even a little present for yourself! And Belfast offered plenty.

The food available was by far the best and most exciting part for me. We indulged in mini pancakes (below), Dinky Donuts and a gorgeous Margarita made fresh in front of our eyes. The food we did have was mouth wateringly good. But there was so much more on offer if your willing to pay for the experience. Kangaroo, or wild boar burgers, sweet potato fries, calamari, paella, curries, German sausages, salami and lots more.

They had beer tents all lit up with festive cheer, mulled wine available at stalls and a great atmosphere to go with it all.

If you're looking for something sweet, you are guaranteed to find plenty, as there a so many stalls offering pick and mix, many with the finest of products. There's even a gluten free stall offering gluten free mallows from Mallow Mia in Donegal.

Overall, Belfast Markets get 10/10 for preparing me and getting me in the mood for Christmas. Not only do I get to tick it off my 101 things in 1001 days list, but it was also a really enjoyable day out.

Happy Christmas!

  1. These pictures & this place look so pretty! So many lights and festivities, I've never actually been to some decent Christmas markets, maybe because I don't really live near any! But the Belfast markets look so lovely! I'd be happy just with the Churros stand aha, great post :-)
